MK: Armageddon is basically the same as previous 3D MK game titles, such as Deception. You have Konquest mode that is sort of a story based adventure setting you can play through. I found this to be really boring as well as poorly done. You need to play through this if you want to unlock everything, however from what I recall there's not a whole lot that really requires you to experience through this mode. Certain things need you to unlock them within Konquest mode, however the others just price coins. You can earn coins within Konquest mode to buy unlockables, but you may also earn these through playing the game mode as well. Personally, I'd probably rather grind arcade mode for the coins rather compared to finish Konquest mode. The unlockables incorporate a variety of points such as new stages, alternate outfits, artwork, etc. There is quite a little bit of stuff to end up being had.
Probably the biggest attraction to MK Armageddon is the huge amount of characters. They do have a lot and that on it's own makes it useful. The combat feels pretty much like all the other three dimensional MK games, if you enjoyed Deadly Alliance and Deception, you'll relish Armageddon. I don't like how they dealt with the fatalities whatsoever in this game though. This period around they chose to make it the "create a fatality", which basically indicates you can choose how you wish to dismember someone depending on what button combination you press. Which means you could punch away their head, or even do a number of other things. While this might sound awesome, this is the only sort of deaths they have hanging around period. It's not an additional fatality type like the Brutalities and other things from previous MK's. So you will have no specialized fatalities at all. Absolutely no Reptile shooting out his tongue as well as swallowing their mind. No Scorpion taking off his mask and torching them. So that's a large negative in my personal book. They also have a create a fighter mode and the kart racing online game. I haven't spent time with either one, but from what I understand the kart racing is actually entertaining.
Overall, MK Armageddon isn't a terrible game, but it's not going to amaze or wow you. The sheer number of fighters may be the main attraction. Pretty much every character in the actual MK series is here. If you played it on Playstation 2 or Xbox you're going to be getting the exact same game here, as it's a direct interface. No enhanced images or anything otherwise. If you're thinking about getting it for the Wii controls additional on, don't bother with that. It's a tacked on add-on that's just going to frustrate you thus making you hook up your classic controller. Should you only have a Wii, your fighting game options are limited, so this may be worthwhile to pick up for a dirt cheap price, especially if you're a big MK fan. You'd probably get more worth out of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom or Guilty Gear on your own Wii if you are considering a fighter although. If you possess a 360 or PS3 I'd say just wait for the new Mortal Kombat online game coming out. That certain looks amazingly awesome and you'll most likely never touch this game again once it is out. You may also just get the Midway arcade compilations they made for PS2 and Xbox 360 to get your own MK fix should you didn't already get UMK3 and MK2 on Live and PSN. I believe Midway pulled their catalog from Live and PSN, if you didn't already get those you're at a complete loss there.
Bottom line: Not so great, but could do a great deal worse. Only worth it if you pip out for dirt cheap. It's $15 at this time on amazon to want to check a local utilized game store very first to see if you're able to get it cheaper perhaps, but $fifteen isn't too bad a price I guess. If you did not like Deadly Connections or the prior 3D MK games, you're not going to like this 1 either.
